Job summary

General Motors is seeking a 12-week Operations internship in its Memphis, TN parts warehouse. You will supervise a team of hourly workers, learn lean processes, and contribute to on-time parts shipments.

Daily work includes coaching, training, and ensuring safety and quality while collaborating with supervisors and management. You'll gain exposure to standard operating procedures, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on developing leadership and teamwork skills

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, operations, supply chain, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the summer internship.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructions to direct reports on standard work and processes within the area.
• Support daily warehouse operations under the direction of a General Supervisor.
• Communicate standardized work, quality expectations, and company policies.
• Assist with training, coaching, development, and engagement activities for operations employees.
• Monitor progress and help ensure tasks are completed safely and on time.
• Identify operational issues, resolve problems, and reduce disruptions.
• Support employee training and rotation to maintain flexibility.
• Identify opportunities for improvement through audits and lean methods.
• Support safety, quality, and cost performance measures.
• Promote a safe work environment and reinforce safety policies.
• Collaborate with union representatives, partners, and management.
• Assist with timekeeping and maintaining records and reports.
• Completed value-adding project and present findings to leadership.
