Job summary

The intern will work in the Asphalt Concrete and/or the Portland Cement Concrete section of the SDDOT Central Materials lab. Perform tests on highway construction materials and verify that hot mix asphalt or portland cement concrete mix designs meet design criteria. Collect GPR data, analyze results, and generate reports.

Limited travel in SD for inspections and materials testing. Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student (min 6 credit hours) in upcoming or immediately

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student in upcoming semester (minimum 6 credits).
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors and to South Dakota residents.
• Students of South Dakota institutions encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• The intern will work in the Asphalt Concrete and/or the Portland Cement Concrete section of the SDDOT Central Materials lab.
• Perform tests on highway construction materials used on SDDOT Projects.
• Verify that hot mix asphalt and/or portland cement concrete mix designs meet the design criteria.
• Collect ground penetrating radar (GPR) data, analyze results, and generate reports for steel placement in pavements.
• Limited travel throughout South Dakota for construction project inspections and materials testing.
