Job summary

DOWL in Billings, MT is seeking a Geotechnical Lab Intern to gain hands-on experience testing asphalt, concrete, soil and aggregates in a fast-paced lab. You'll assist with data entry, reporting, and equipment maintenance while learning ASTM, AASHTO, WAQTC standards.

This internship is ideal for civil engineering students or related fields who are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to contribute under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience in materials testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform data entry, record keeping, invoicing, test reporting, and other administrative duties.
• Learn and apply ASTM, AASHTO, WAQTC test procedures.
• Perform testing in the laboratory on soil and construction materials including Proctors, sieve analyses, plasticity index, soil, asphalt and concrete tests.
• Prep and test concrete cylinders, cores, masonry blocks, and prisms for compressive strength testing.
• Break cylinders, prisms, and cubes of concrete and masonry.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory and field equipment.
• Compute test data under supervision of Lead Lab Technicians and Laboratory Supervisor.
• Assist with data back-checking and corrections.
• Support other engineering-related duties as assigned.
