Job summary

The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid Financial Audit Intern program in Nashville for Summer 2027 (June 1 – August 6). Interns gain hands-on experience auditing state and local entities, reviewing records, financial statements, and controls.

The program includes training, professional development, etiquette day, speed networking, Capitol tour, and cohort check-ins, with possible travel within Tennessee.

Qualifications

• Rising juniors/seniors or graduate accounting students.
• Completion of at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework.
• Preference for intermediate/advanced accounting classes.
• Adaptable, able to work both independently and in a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Learn to examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices for state and local government entities and other organizations receiving public funds.
• Evaluate fairness of financial statement presentation, adequacy of internal controls, efficiency and effectiveness of operations, and compliance with laws, contracts, and grant agreements.
