Job summary

NiSource is seeking Summer Electric Engineering Interns for the Gary, IN area. The 12-week program begins in May 2027, targeting juniors and seniors pursuing Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.

Interns will join a team, work on meaningful projects, and build professional relationships across NiSource while engaging in professional development activities. This in-person internship requires 40 hours per week, within 50 miles of Gary, IN, and a 3.0+ GPA.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
• Ability to work 40 hrs/week in-person during summer.
• Proficiency with PC applications; MS Excel & Access preferred.
• Strong communication skills and written/oral proficiency.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Valid driver's license upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist Electric Major Projects team with project support tasks.
• Help manage permits, job orders, materials procurement and invoicing.
• Maintain project files and assist with scheduling, risk analysis, and cost control.
• Support compliance training content development and instructor-led modules.
• Collaborate with NiSource teams to ensure safe, reliable, and economical project execution.
