Job summary

Isthmus Engineering in Minnesota is seeking a 2027 Summer Civil Engineering Intern to contribute to roadway, traffic, or transit projects. You will be paired with a Career Advocate who mentors you throughout the internship and guides weekly Intern Conversations with experienced engineers.

Responsibilities include basic design work, organizing documentation, and plan prep using CADD, while gaining exposure to transportation-focused civil engineering in a supportive, hybrid-work environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program with at least two years completed.
• Interest in transportation engineering and related courses preferred.
• Ability to use design software tools (CADD) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic design and engineering calculations.
• Organize information for designs, drawings, or documents.
• Assist with plan preparation using design software such as CADD.
• Support engineers in various tasks and duties.

As a 2027 Summer Civil Engineering Intern at Isthmus Engineering, you will engage in real-world engineering projects in our Roadway, Traffic, or Transit areas based on your interests and our project priorities. You will be paired with a Career Advocate who will help teach, mentor, and support you throughout your internship. Through weekly Intern Conversations, you will learn from our experienced team members about our industry and the services that Isthmus offers.

The general responsibilities for the position of Civil Engineering Intern include:

• Performing basic design and engineering calculations.
• Organizing information for use in designs, drawings, or other documents.
• Performing plan preparation using design software tools, such as CADD.
• Supporting engineers in various tasks and duties.
• Evidencing continued commitment to individual, company, and industry improvement.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Required:

• Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary Civil Engineering program or a closely related field and two years of program completion.

Preferred:

• Focus on Transportation or General Civil Engineering.
• Completed Transportation Engineering course.

Our ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following:

• Interest in pursuing a career in transportation engineering.
• Aptitude and desire to work with CADD.
• Working knowledge of Excel and Word.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Positive team-focused attitude.

Compensation and Benefits

• The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $22.80-$24.00/hour. Compensation will be based upon experience, education, skill level, and other factors.
