General Matter is offering a Summer 2027 Embedded Software Engineering Internship in Los Angeles, CA. You will help develop performant, safe software that directly controls enrichment systems and interfaces with cross-functional teams.

The role focuses on low-level firmware in C/C++, Rust, and PLCs, plus debugging with oscilloscopes and lab instrumentation. Ideal candidates are pursuing CS/EE/CE degrees and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in CS/CE/EE.
• Development experience in C, C++, Golang, Python, or Rust.
• Understanding of embedded or low-level systems.
• Collaborative team member in fast-paced environments.
• Strong engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing safety-critical embedded software powering industrial systems.
• Build low-level firmware in C/C++, Rust, or PLCs to control actuators.
• Support design of control architectures and data acquisition systems.
• Contribute to automated build, test, and validation infrastructure.
• Collaborate with hardware, electrical, and controls engineers.
• Assist with debugging real-world embedded systems using lab instruments.
• Support system testing and commissioning on production equipment.
