Job summary

Impulse Space seeks a Flight/Embedded Software Intern for Summer 2027 in Redondo Beach, CA. You will write embedded code for custom avionics hardware, collaborating with avionics, propulsion, and GNC engineers, contributing to bench testing and automation for spacecraft development.

This 12-week internship runs May/June to August/September 2027, with on-site work in Redondo Beach and overtime eligibility. Ideal candidates are enrolled in CS/CE/EE programs and have hands-on embedded coding

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Experience developing embedded microcontroller code for an extracurricular project, ideally in C, C++, Rust, or assembly.
Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns.

Responsibilities

Implement and improve low-level processor functions such as controls of peripherals, and setup of communication interfaces
Implement and improve functions such as closed loop control of physical processes
Write scrappy code to support development testing of avionics, fluids, and propulsion devices
Write rigorous, reviewed, and tested code to support manufacturing and flight
