Moses Lake School District 161 Administration Office is seeking dedicated Substitute School Teachers to join our educational team. You will provide instruction in the absence of the regular teacher, following prepared lesson plans and maintaining a positive learning environment for students.

This role requires flexibility across grades and subject areas, effective communication with staff, and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State teaching certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain Emergency Substitute Teacher Certificate.
  • Fingerprint clearance (Washington State Patrol and FBI).
  • Training and/or endorsement in special education or bilingual preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different teaching environments and grade levels.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the absent teacher.
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
  • Manage student behavior fairly and consistently.
  • Work effectively with students with varying academic, emotional, social and physical needs.
  • Deliver lessons effectively and facilitate learning.
  • Assist students with questions and provide clarification on assignments.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in activities.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual needs and abilities.
  • Take attendance and report it to the school office.
  • Maintain records of daily classroom activities and student progress.
  • Ensure classroom materials and equipment are returned in good condition.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records per FERPA.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a cohesive educational environment.
  • Work with special program teachers and educational aides to facilitate integration.
  • Communicate with the school office and administrators as needed.
  • Relay information to the regular teacher upon their return.
  • Be prepared to adapt to various grade levels and subjects.
  • Respond to last-minute substitute requests.
  • Remain at school for the full day unless excused.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of technology in daily tasks.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct per OSPI and district policies.

Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and flexible Substitute School Teachers to join our educational team. As a Substitute School Teacher, you will be responsible for maintaining a positive and productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. You will follow the provided lesson plans and ensure a seamless continuation of instruction, fostering a safe and engaging atmosphere for students. This role is crucial in supporting our commitment to quality education and student development.

Substitute teachers are limited to working 600 hours per school year.

Substitute Salary Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Washington State teacher certification, OR Associate Degree or higher and the ability to obtain an Emergency Substitute Teacher Certificate.
  • Cleared fingerprints from Washington State Patrol and the FBI.
  • Training and/or endorsement in special education or bilingual preferred.
  • Strong classroom management skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Implement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the absent teacher.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
  • Manage student behavior in a fair and consistent manner, following school policies and guidelines.
  • Work effectively with all children with varying academic, emotional, social and physical needs.
  • Facilitate learning by delivering lessons effectively.
  • Assist students with questions and provide clarification on assignments.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Take attendance and report it accurately to the school office.
  • Maintain records of daily classroom activities and student progress as required.
  • Ensure classroom materials and equipment are returned in good condition.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff members to maintain a cohesive educational environment.
  • Work collaboratively with special program teachers and educational assistants to facilitate an integrated instructional model.
  • Communicate with the school office and administrators as necessary regarding classroom needs or concerns.
  • Relay information about the day's activities to the regular teacher upon their return.
  • Be prepared to adapt to various grade levels and subject areas as needed.
  • Respond to last-minute requests for substitute teaching assignments.
  • Remains at school during the entire school day unless excused by the principal or the designated representative.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and incorporates technology in daily tasks, as required.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.
  • Adheres to the professional code of conduct as outlined by OSPI, as well as all Moses Lake School District policies and procedures.
  • Complete annual Safe Schools training.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the Principal or Superintendent.
