Job summary

Penmac Education Staffing is hiring Substitute Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year in the Jefferson City School District. You will have the flexibility to create your own schedule and choose grade levels, buildings, and subjects you want to teach.

Training and ongoing support are provided to ensure you have the tools to succeed in the classroom. Responsibilities include following lesson plans, managing classrooms, adapting teaching methods, and supervising students in various settings.

Qualifications

• 36 college credit hours (in any subject) or online training program designated by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Missouri Teaching License or Substitute Certificate.
• Fingerprint background check is required before proceeding.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student.
• Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria.
• Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plans.
• For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans.

You will have the flexibility of creating your own schedule and setting your preferences for which grade levels, school buildings, and subject matter areas you would like to teach in. Penmac provides training and ongoing support to substitute teachers to ensure you have the tools and skills needed to succeed in the classroom.

Responsibilities of a Substitute Teacher include:

To become a Substitute Teacher, you must:

• Obtain a Missouri Teaching License or Substitute Certificate

• Complete required training provided by Penmac.
