Job Description

Job Title: Substitute Teacher

Primary Location: District Wide

Shift Type: Part-Time

Reports to:Principal

Dept./School:Assigned Campus

PURPOSE:

Deliver instruction, provide support to staff/students, and perform related job duties/responsibilities during the absence of the regular employee. Substitute teachers are expected to provide learning opportunities and experiences designed to support student success in the classroom as directed by the classroom teacher and campus administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent or higher OR
  • Minimum of 60 college hours; Bachelor’s degree OR
  • Texas Teaching certification
  • Attend substitute teacher orientation.
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of students in a professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively deliver classroom instruction as outlined in lesson plan while maintaining classroom management.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team to provide assistance to campus and staff.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Conduct instructional activities outlined and described by teacher and campus administration.
  • Maintain regular classroom schedule of the school and classroom assigned, including established routines and procedures.
  • Follow district guidelines in maintaining classroom management, appropriate discipline and confidentiality.
  • Provide supervision of students with instruction or activities that may fall within or outside the classroom environment.
  • Support mission of school district by serving as a positive role model for students.
  • Consult with campus administration before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plan provided by the absent employee.
  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which all FISD employees are subject.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.

Lifting:Frequent light lifting and carrying (15 pounds or less); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, assisting nonambulatory students, lifting and moving classroom equipment, including text books and materials

Environment:Frequent work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)

Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
