Summary
The substitute is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in implementing the daily lesson plan and schedule, ensuring the welfare, health, and safety of all children through direct supervision. The substitute helps create a caring and safe environment, assists in educational activities, and documents children’s interests and progress to share with staff and parents. Responsibilities include implementing developmentally appropriate activities under the direction of the teacher and Director.
Duties
- Engage and interact with children while maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere.
- Ask questions, get involved in classroom practices, and encourage conversations with children.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment.
- Collaborate with other teachers on curriculum and maintain excellent organizational skills.
- Communicate effectively with parents, coworkers, and children.
- Be able to lift 40 pounds, sit on the floor for child interaction, be active on the playground, and work outdoors in hot and cold temperatures.
Requirements
- Complete a criminal background/fingerprint check.
- Undergo a medical or physical examination with a record of Mantoux results.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous childcare experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
