Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: To maintain the school buildings and efficient management of the facility as to usefulness, appearance, safety hazards, cleanliness and minor repairs not requiring skilled tradesman. Other job-related duties will be assigned. The substitute custodian will perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kiona-Benton City School District policies and procedures.
Qualification Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Can provide written references that verify dependability and relevant past work experience.
- Has knowledge of and can demonstrate general custodial skills.
- Demonstrates ability to organize time well (self-starter).
- Physically able to do required work which could include some heavy and sustained lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, possible climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.
- Must have valid Washington State Driver's License with good driving record. Must provide copy of Driver’s Abstract with application.
- Able to get along with others (students, staff, parents) and communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write in English, and follow directions/instructions and perform basic math calculations. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL BE TESTED.
- Demonstrated ability to present a positive image for the school district and willing to follow District policies and procedures.
- Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be a self-starter and self-disciplined.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
- Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner.
- Secure building.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report needed repairs on work order forms.
- Set up for special programs.
- Make minor repairs (chairs, tables, etc.).
- Perform general labor as needed: i.e. moving equipment, desks, tables, etc.
- Perform related duties as assigned by principal.
- Work cooperatively with students, teachers and administrators.
- Possess basic operational knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems.
- Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kiona-Benton School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
Specific Responsibilities
- Raise/lower flags.
- Use power equipment and hand tools such as shovel, broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, wall, carpets and furniture.
- Clean and sanitize toilets, shower rooms and fixtures.
- Empty wastebaskets and trash containers.
- Dust furniture and light fixtures; clean chalkboards and erasers.
- Sweep, mop and polish floors. Wash windows.
- Replace light bulbs, tissue and other restroom supplies.
- Clean sidewalks and keep driveway litter free, perform snow and ice removal.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, walk and sit, kneel or crouch, bend and twist, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm, manually keyboard, and talk/hear conversations and other sounds.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Noise level moderate, may be dusty, spend time in outside elements as required.
