Job summary

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call paraeducator to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with and care of basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, recess and/or crosswalk duty, providing clerical assistance, and performing other job-related duties as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Kiona-Benton City School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

1. High School diploma or GEDrequired for employmentand must have passed a PRAXIS test, 72 college credits above 100 level, or an AA degree for paraeducator placement. AA degree preferred.

2. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative; follow the teacher’s directions; model appropriate behavior; demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward working with students with disabling conditions; maintain composure in difficult situations; value the confidential nature of sensitive student information

3. Physically able to lift students as needed (50-75 lbs) required.

4. Successful experience working with school-aged children required.

5. Successful experience at recess duty desirable.

6. Demonstrated clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.

7. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in assisting students. Ability to be flexible with the varied demands of the position.

8. Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.

9. Ability to follow directions in a team situation.

10. Willingness to work with all children within the school regardless of abilities.

11. Willingness to support and promote the classroom teachers and to maintain a warm and friendly relationship with those teachers.

12. Must be able and available to work Monday-Friday.

13. Positive evaluations and recommendations required.

1. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, crouch or kneel, bend and twist, use hands, and talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. The employee may be required to physically move quickly while performing student supervision duties.

2. The noise level in this work environment is moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be assigned to work in outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to weather extremes, including wet and/or humid conditions, cold and heat.
