Responsibilities
- Provide healthy and nutritious meals to children, staff, and volunteers of Head Start.
- Direct the preparation of approximately 20-100 meals daily, adhering to USDA, Head Start, and other relevant nutrition standards.
- Serve meals that are high in nutrients and low in fat, salt, and sugar.
- Maintain accurate records, including milk inventory, program expenses, cleaning schedules, food allergies, and serving methods.
- Follow correct food preparation procedures, including temperatures, portions, and serving methods.
- Prepare meals from scratch, limiting processed foods.
- Ensure meals are prepared on schedule, food is held at proper temperatures, and portions are adequate.
- Use initiative and creativity in seasoning, estimating amounts, and presenting attractive food.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and equipment.
- Wash dishes and utensils as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff and family information.
- Fulfill the role of mandated reporter as per Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
- Occasionally fill in for other teachers at different sites as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred experience in food service.
- Preferred ServeSafe or equivalent certification.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
