Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Structural Engineering Intern for the Billings, MT office, with options for Overland Park, KS and Lakewood, CO. This 12-week summer internship starts May 18, 2026 and welcomes students enrolled in Civil Engineering programs to gain hands-on experience while working with senior staff.

Responsibilities include supporting structural design for substations, assisting with field work and calculations, and preparing design plans and cost estimates.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering undergraduate program with anticipated graduation August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older and have interest in civil engineering and WSP projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and basic design tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Apply structural engineering principles to design structures and foundations for substation equipment.
• Aid in project research, field work, and design calculations/analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, provisions, and cost estimates.
• Help collect and maintain project documentation and training on tasks.
