WSP USA in Billings, MT invites talented students to join our Summer Internship Program as a Full-time Mechanical Engineering (Substation) Intern. You will work on real projects alongside senior staff during a 12-week program starting May 17, 2027, with flexible start date.

The internship emphasizes developing technical, social, and ethical skills, learning mechanical engineering basics, assisting with research, design calculations, and project documentation while adhering to WSP safety policies.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in mechanical engineering undergraduate program with anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering and desire to advance skills related to WSP's work.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, effectively presenting to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers on projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Authorized to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
• Preferred: enrolled in related Masters/PhD with August 2027+ graduation.
• Experience with design software (e.g., Mathcad, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Mechanical Engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and safety policies.
