Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced Substation Structural Engineer for our Billings, MT office with consideration for Denver, Boise, Hailey, and Overland Park locations. You will deliver design, calculations, drawings, and documentation for substation structures, while coordinating with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and construction teams.

Responsibilities include mentoring junior staff, QA/QC, and ensuring safety and code compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3 to 5 years of post-education structural engineering experience with substation design.
• Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain licensure.
• Knowledge of steel/concrete design, soil mechanics, and foundations.
• Familiarity with codes (ACI, AISC, ASCE) and structural analysis software.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural engineering work for electrical substation projects including steel structures and foundations.
• Prepare calculations, design criteria, and calculation packages per client standards.
• Develop construction specifications and cost estimates for proposals and schedules.
• Produce and review structural drawings and fabrication‑ready documents.
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and construction teams.
• Utilize structural analysis and finite element tools to size systems and foundations.
• Maintain QA/QC and support project managers with coordination.
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Mentor junior team members and support ethical conduct and safety policies.
