Job summary

WSP is seeking an entry-level Substation Structural Engineer for our Duluth, GA area and nearby locations, including Baton Rouge, LA and Oradell, NJ. You will support the analysis, design and delivery of structural solutions for electrical substation projects under supervision.

You will prepare calculations, create drafting markups, and assist with specifications and coordination across disciplines. This role offers growth in a multidisciplinary team within a global engineering firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
• Familiarity with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
• Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline‑specific design software (i.e., RISA3D, RISA Foundation, LPile, MathCad, MicroStation, AutoCAD, STADD).
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by company policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural engineering work supporting electrical substation projects, including steel structures and reinforced concrete foundations.
• Prepare detailed structural calculations, design criteria, load development, and calculation packages.
• Create engineering drawing markups for drafting alignment with design calculations.
• Develop construction specifications and cost estimates for proposals and schedules.
• Provide cross-disciplinary coordination to support integrated substation design solutions.
• Utilize structural analysis and finite element tools to size systems and foundations.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of structural deliverables.
• Support reporting requirements and technical coordination with project leads.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to safety policies and codes of conduct.
