Job summary

PacifiCorp is seeking a Relay Technician Trainee to learn through hands-on work, coursework, and guided mentorship under an Area Relay Technician. You’ll build skills for a journeyman role, supporting substation protection, control, and metering systems.

Responsibilities include assisting with installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of relays, metering, and SCADA-related controls, with emphasis on safety and teamwork in an onsite environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Certification in an electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent.
• Ability to manage workload and use computerized test programs.
• Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, Internet).
• Candidate must have good driving record.
• Must be able to obtain a CDL.
• Strong ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
• Pass the Relay Technician Trainee pool entrance exam with a minimum score of 80%.
• Must be a journeyman with three years journeyman experience in listed crafts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
• Work with relays, metering, recorders, and control systems in substations.
• Support remote control and monitoring systems, including SCADA.
• Adhere to safety standards and company policies; handle tools/test equipment.
• Work independently or with a team; respond to conditions and emergencies.
