Job summary

Actalent seeks experienced field technicians to test, commission, and troubleshoot protective relays in utility substations and power stations across the region. You will work with advanced relay test equipment and software, document results, and ensure safe, reliable power system performance.

The role emphasizes on-site leadership, travel to multiple sites, and collaboration with utilities, EPCs, and service firms.

Qualifications

• Approximately 5 years of relay and protection-and-control (P&C) experience for mid-level Relay Technicians.

Responsibilities

• Lead site safety briefings and hazard identification at substations and power stations.
• Install, commission, and test substation control circuits, relay panels, transformers, breakers, and protection equipment.
• Perform protective relay testing including functional, acceptance, maintenance, and end-to-end testing using relay test equipment and software platforms such as OMICRON.
• Analyze protection schemes for power systems to ensure correct coordination and operation.
• Review relay settings, analyze event records, and troubleshoot relay and control issues in substations and generation facilities.
• Calibrate and test electromechanical and microprocessor-based protective relays.
• Read protection and control drawings, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, relay schematics, and logic diagrams.
• Execute relay commissioning activities and verify protection and control schemes.
• Troubleshoot protection systems and implement corrective actions to restore operation.
• Travel regionally to substation and generation sites to support upgrades.
