Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Substation Project Engineer in Richmond, VA to lead design and construction efforts for transmission and distribution substations, energy projects, and related infrastructure. You will mentor engineers, coordinate across disciplines, and ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, and local codes while delivering safe, reliable systems.

This role requires a PE license, 7–10 years of experience, and strong project leadership skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
7–10 years of electrical engineering experience in substation design.
Professional Engineer license.
Strong project leadership and client collaboration.
Proficiency with substation planning and design codes.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and work independently.

Responsibilities

Guide data collection and analysis for substation components and procurement packages.
Review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for code compliance.
Apply high-level engineering techniques to optimize project phases.
Design single line diagrams, bus arrangements, and grounding designs.
Develop plans and cost estimates with owners and clients.
Lead cross-functional teams; manage budgets and schedules.
Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Ensure health and safety plans are implemented.
