Job summary

WSP Reno, NV seeks a Lead Substation Electrical Engineer to guide multi‑site substation design for utility transmission and distribution projects. You will lead complex P&C and physical layouts, ensure compliance with IEEE/NESC/NEC, and mentor junior staff.

Role involves cross‑functional collaboration, providing data‑driven design decisions, and delivering high‑quality technical reports. PE license and 7–10 years of post‑degree experience are preferred, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post‑education experience delivering design deliverables for transmission and distribution substations.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build project delivery.
• Experience with substation physical design and/or protection and control (P&C) engineering.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC codes and compliance requirements.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff and ensure QA/QC standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide high‑level technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site/phase substation design projects.
• Coordinate and approve substation electrical design plans for smaller and less complex projects.
• Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across concept, design, procurement and construction.
• Perform detailed layouts, single‑line and three‑line diagrams, grounding, and P&C design tasks.
• Review calculations for loads, short‑circuit studies, protective device coordination.
• Develop specifications and cost estimates in collaboration with owners and subsadiaplines.
• Provide project oversight from inception through completion and manage QA/QC.
