Job summary

HDR Engineering seeks a Substation Project Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team with opportunities across the Northwest and beyond.

As an employee-owned firm, HDR emphasizes inclusion, mentorship, and delivering reliable substation design and engineering. You will collaborate with Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams to advance projects and strengthen critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Experience with PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
Willingness to travel.
Experience with substation design for 12kV through 500kV; 765kV a plus.
Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.

Responsibilities

Support scopes, schedules, and budgets; ensure timelines and budgets are met.
Understand substation design: yard layouts, grounding, protection, control buildings.
Prepare studies and reports: grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC loads.
Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and factory testing.
Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission.
Communicate with project managers, clients and others.
Mentor and supervise EITs/ Designers as needed.
