Job summary

HDR Engineering is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join a growing national Power Delivery team. This role supports scopes, schedules, budgets, and detailed substation design including grounding, protection, and control systems.

Locations include Boise and Bend with opportunities across the Pacific Northwest. The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a PE license, and 4+ years in substation design, plus proficiency with AutoCAD, PLS CAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• PE license or equivalent professional licensure.
• 4+ years of experience in substation design.
• Experience with One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, BOM, Relay/Control, Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
• Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office and electrical design software.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare scopes, schedules and budgets and ensure they are met.
• Understand substation design including grounding, protection and control layouts.
• Prepare studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies).
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or testing.
• Coordinate design with Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission, and other departments.
• Communicate project activities with the manager, clients, and others as needed.
• Mentor and supervise less-experienced EITs and Designers.
