HDR Engineering is actively seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. The role focuses on substation design, one-line diagrams, grounding, and protection systems across multiple locations, including Billings, MT.

The position requires PE licensure and a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least four years in substation projects. Responsibilities include coordinating scopes, schedules, and budgets, preparing equipment specifications, and mentoring junior staff

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Minimum 4 years in substation design and project execution in power market.
Experience with 12kV–500kV design; familiarity with 765kV is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets and ensure adherence.
Understand substation design elements including yard layouts, grounding, and protection schemes.
Prepare studies, calculations, and equipment specifications for procurement and testing.
Coordinate design activities across Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams.
Mentor and supervise junior EITs and Designers.
