Job summary

HDR Engineering is actively seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. You will contribute to high‑voltage substation projects (12 kV through 500 kV), lead design efforts, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with multiple departments.

Ideal candidates have a PE license, 5+ years of substation experience, and strong skills in protection, grounding, and equipment specifications. Domestic travel is expected as projects demand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; PE license preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in substation design.
• Experience with One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Materials Lists, Relay and Control Systems.

Responsibilities

• Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
• Understand substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, power systems, and BOMs.
• Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission teams.
• Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lightning protection, load studies).
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and testing.
• Mentor and supervise junior EITs/ Designers.
