Job summary

HDR is looking for a Substation Engineer to join our growing team of Power Delivery professionals. You will perform physical substation, protection, and control engineering for high voltage projects ranging 12 kV through 500 kV, supporting scopes, schedules, and budgets.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a PE license, and experience in Power Market Sector project execution, along with proficiency in MS Office and design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D,

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Professional Engineer license (PE) recognized by the licensing board for the position.
Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Proficiency in MS Office and power market sector design software (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).
Active participation in an employee‑owned culture.

Responsibilities

Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets and ensure schedules and budgets are met.
Understand physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, and related BOMs.
Understand protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three-line diagrams, wiring.
Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies).
Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line).
Communicate effectively with manager, clients, and others; mentor junior staff as needed.
