Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Engineer to join our national Power Delivery team. You will perform physical substation, protection, and control engineering for 12 kV through 500 kV projects, ranging from distribution upgrades to large transmission substations globally.

Responsibilities include scope, schedule, and budget support; substation layout, grounding, and protection design; equipment wiring and panel layouts; and coordination with Civil/Structural and other groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent (P.Eng).
• Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Proficient with MS Office and Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).

Responsibilities

• Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; ensure schedules/budgets are met.
• Understand physical substation design including yard layouts, grounding, protection, control building arrangements, raceways.
• Understand protection and control design including panel and wiring.
• Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies).
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
• Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission teams.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, others.
• Mentor and supervise less-experienced staff as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.
