Job summary

HDR Engineering seeks a Substation Project Engineer in Rapid City, SD to join our Power Delivery team. You will perform physical substation, protection, and control engineering for HV projects from 12kV to 500kV, contributing to a range of projects worldwide.

You will work under PMs, mentor junior staff, prepare studies, specs, and collaborate across Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams while aligning with our employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• PE license and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering are required.
• Minimum 3 years’ project execution experience in substation design.
• Experience in engineering consulting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand physical substation design including yard layouts, grounding, protection concepts.
• Prepare equipment specifications and testing documentation.
• Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams.
• Direct, mentor, train, and supervise less-experienced EITs and Designers.
• Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure schedules are met.
• Communicate effectively with project managers and clients as needed.
