Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Substation Lead Engineer - Physical in New York to design substations from 12kV to 500kV, applying NESC, NEC, IEEE, and ASCE standards.

You will lead multiple projects, act as Engineer of Record, mentor staff, oversee design deliverables, coordinate with disciplines, and support proposals and client communications. This role requires a PE license, ABET-accredited degree, and 6+ years of experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 6+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Expertise in layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding, and constructability.
• Ability to lead teams and coordinate multi-project execution.
• Knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ASCE and client requirements.
• Strong communication and leadership skills for client interactions.
• Ability to identify risks and resolve complex technical issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation physical design across multiple projects with technical ownership.
• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) with PE stamping authority.
• Guide engineers, designers, and drafters to ensure standards and quality.
• Provide technical leadership for layouts, grounding, and cable routing.
• Decide on station configuration and constructability approaches.
• Lead grounding, lightning, and illumination studies and approvals.
• Develop equipment specs and Bills of Materials.
• Coordinate with internal and external disciplines for integrated design.
• Lead client communications and scope alignment.
• Interpret contracts and manage scope, changes, and risk.
