Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to join our EPC Solutions group within Power Delivery. You will lead outdoor substation physical design, equipment layouts, grounding plans, and foundation details for transmission and distribution projects nationwide.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Protection & Control, SCADA, Civil/Structural, and Transmission Line, preparing drawings, calculations, and construction documentation while supporting process improvements

Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
4+ years of relevant experience in utility substation physical design (3+ years with an MS).
Experience developing substation physical design packages for transmission and distribution.
Knowledge of outdoor substation equipment and layouts (transformers, breakers, bus, grounding).
Experience with engineering standards and utility EPC project execution.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Substation Physical Engineer for outdoor substation design on EPC projects.
Develop and review substation physical design packages (layouts, grounding plans, foundations).
Perform calculations for grounding, conductor sizing, clearances, and foundation needs.
Read and develop substation drawings (one-line, plan/elevation, grounding, conduit plans).
Coordinate with Protection & Control, SCADA, Civil/Structural, and other disciplines.
Assist senior engineers with studies, site evaluations, and constructability reviews.
Prepare deliverables: drawings, calculations, reports, and procurement support.
Support project proposals with scope input and manhour estimates.
