Job summary

Leidos Engineering seeks a Substation Engineer to join our EPC Solutions organization. You will deliver HV/EHV substations design, protection and control, and contribute to development through mentorship and formal training opportunities.

The role emphasizes rigorous engineering standards, collaboration across disciplines, and proactive project support from proposal through field deployment, with flexible work arrangements to support career growth.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (Electrical preferred).
• 4+ years of prior relevant substation engineering experience.
• Familiarity with electric infrastructure and the theories and principles involved in substation engineering.
• Experience with engineering programs and software (including SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software).
• Competency in applying basic theories and principals involved in substation engineering.
• Experience with Engineering, Procurement & Construction turnkey projects for electric utilities is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform Substation Physical Electrical engineering design at HV and EHV voltage levels per standards.
• Perform Protection and Control engineering design at HV and EHV voltage levels per standards.
• Read and design substation drawings such as operation one-line drawings, electrical plan and section drawings, grounding layouts.
• Assist senior engineers with engineering studies.
• Prepare project deliverables including engineered drawings, technical reports, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and assess design changes impact.
• Perform Quality Control reviews.
• Provide technical oversight and support for project teams.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals under the direction of project engineers.
• Provide drawing counts and manhour estimates.
• Develop processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency.
• Maintain accurate records and stay organized.
• Develop technical presentations for staff training.
• Assist project engineer with field technical support during construction.
