Job summary

ICF seeks a Department Manager, Substation Physical Engineering to lead and grow our substation engineering practice nationwide. You will oversee operational performance, client relationships, and technical excellence while mentoring staff and driving profitability.

The ideal candidate brings deep substation design expertise, strong leadership, and a track record of delivering high-quality solutions for utility clients across planning, design, analysis, and construction support services.

Qualifications

BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
12+ years in substation engineering, design, analysis, or related power delivery services.
12+ years with electric utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consulting.
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Experience managing project portfolios, resource planning, and financial performance.
Knowledge of substation physical design principles and constructability.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a team of substation engineers, designers, and specialists.
Manage staffing, recruiting, workload forecasting, and resource allocation.
Oversee delivery of substation projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and per quality standards.
Provide technical leadership for complex projects across distribution to 765kV.
Establish engineering standards, QA/QC, and workflows across the department.
Own department performance, utilization, backlog, revenue targets, and profitability.
Build client relationships with utility clients, vendors, and partners.
Identify opportunities for service expansion and market growth.
