Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Substation Engineer / Technical Project Manager for the Lexington, KY area. The role blends technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, overseeing projects from concept through construction while mentoring engineers and driving successful delivery.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), 7 years of utility substation experience (3 years in management), and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
• 7 years of utility substation experience, including 3 years managing projects.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• PE license or EIT certification preferred.
• Experience across multiple voltage levels (13kV-500kV).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation, switching station, and collector station projects from planning through closeout.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and financial performance.
• Serve as primary client contact and coordinate teams, contractors, stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership for substation design deliverables.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, transmission, protection & controls, and SCADA teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Support proposals, design reviews, and client presentations.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers.
