Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP seeks an Engineer - Substations to perform electrical engineering for constructing high voltage substations, including planning, scope development, estimating, and equipment specification.

The role supports project planning, design standards, and collaboration with various company departments to ensure reliable energy delivery and adherence to regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (BSEE) from ABET-accredited university; 2+ years experience.
• Experience in electric substation maintenance and field engineering.
• Professional Engineer license in applicable state.
• Knowledge of planning, operations, and engineering design, analytics and calculations.
• Ability to document and review engineering work.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC).

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates larger scale engineering projects, scheduling and cost tracking, and coordination support for various Company departments and customers.
• Performs moderately complex engineering analysis to determine equipment ratings, insulation coordination, grounding, and lightening protection requirements.
• Provides technical expertise for substation maintenance technicians and electric field operations personnel to ensure safe and reliable delivery of energy related services.
• Helps plan design and construction standards, determine installation and operating requirements, and evaluate new products and vendors; provides equipment application and maintenance recommendations.
• Performs maintenance program development, maintenance specifications, equipment assessment, technical support and equipment specs for substation equipment.
• Provides preliminary designs and estimates in support of capital budget plans and System Planning studies.
