Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP is seeking an Engineer - Substations to perform electrical engineering for constructing high voltage substations, including planning, scope development, estimating, and equipment specification.

The role involves coordinating large-scale projects, providing technical expertise to maintenance and field teams, and supporting capital budget and system planning studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (BSEE) from ABET-accredited university.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in substation maintenance and field engineering.
• Professional Engineering license in applicable state.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC).
• Strong communication and teamwork in cross-functional projects.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates large-scale engineering projects, scheduling and cost tracking.
• Performs engineering analysis to determine equipment ratings, insulation coordination, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Provides technical support to maintenance technicians and field operations to ensure safe, reliable energy delivery.
• Assists in planning design and construction standards, evaluates new products and vendors.
• Produces preliminary designs and estimates for capital budget plans and planning studies.
