Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Substation Assistant Electrical Engineer in Fort Worth, TX to assist in the design, development, and construction of substations and related power delivery projects.

Under supervision, you will learn to perform electrical calculations, prepare drawings, assist with equipment sizing, and generate concise documentation while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
• 0–1 year of post-education experience or related internship.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with electrical construction laws, codes and regulations.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for technical settings.
• Ability to work independently or in a team under supervision.
• Proficient in technical writing, office software and basic design tools.
• Familiarity with design software like CAD/Electrical design tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and analysis for substation components and procurement packages.
• Support design of single line, three-line diagrams, bus arrangements, grounding, and protection concepts.
• Provide entry-level technical assistance on equipment sizing, cabling, and wiring layouts.
• Help verify site characteristics and assist with engineering, testing, and construction procedures.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, feeder sizing, voltage drop, and lighting controls under supervision.
• Generate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field notes.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and project procedures.
• Complete training and perform additional tasks as needed.
