Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in the United States. You will participate in planning, design, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, under the guidance of seasoned engineers.

This entry-level role emphasizes hands-on experience with single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment sizing, plus learning IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 0–1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and power systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers and project teams with electrical engineering and design activities related to transmission and distribution substation projects.
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing project data for engineering studies, equipment selection, and design development.
  • Support the preparation of engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, substation layouts, and construction drawings.
  • Assist with performing electrical calculations related to loads, voltage drop, grounding systems, power distribution, and equipment sizing.
  • Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.
  • Assist with the development of technical reports, specifications, design packages, and project documentation.
  • Support field visits, site assessments, commissioning efforts, and construction-related activities as needed.
  • Learn and apply IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility-specific design requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery and client objectives.
