Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Substation Assistant Electrical Engineer for its Fort Worth, Texas office. You will support the Power Delivery Substation Team on due diligence, design, development, and construction of utility-scale projects in public and private sectors.

Responsibilities include data collection, substation layout design, and preparation of documentation while adhering to safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Strong research skills with analytical mindset.
• General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design of large capital projects.
• Familiarity with electrical construction laws, codes, regulations and record-keeping.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self-leadership, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Ability to work independently under supervision or as part of a team.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (AutoCAD Electrical, Aspen, CAPE).

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, assist with data collection and analysis for substation components and equipment specifications.
• Assist with design of single line, three line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement and bus layout.
• Perform routine engineering tasks on design requirements, equipment sizing, cabling and conduit strategies.
• Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, and construction procedures.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, feeder sizing, voltage drop and grounding under supervision.
• Create complete, accurate documentation using drawings and field logs.
• Comply with safety guidelines and project procedures.
• Complete assigned training and adhere to company code of conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
