Actalent in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Substation Designer to help design substations powering communities and critical operations. You will work with experienced engineers on transmission, distribution, grid modernization, and large-scale infrastructure projects, delivering safe, reliable power delivery.
The role emphasizes collaboration, creating precise drawings and documentation, and supporting projects from utility upgrades to data centers, with a hybrid schedule in Phoenix/Tucson.

In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and industry experts on transmission, distribution, grid modernization, and large-scale infrastructure projects. From supporting utility upgrades to powering new data centers, your work will directly contribute to the future of energy delivery.
Develop and refine electrical substation layouts and design packages for utility and power delivery projects.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams to create safe, efficient, and reliable substation solutions.
Prepare and update technical drawings, design documentation, and project deliverables.
Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas that improve quality, constructability, and system performance.
Support projects focused on grid modernization, transmission infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and system reliability.
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to help ensure projects stay on schedule and meet client expectations.
Experience in electrical substation design and power delivery projects.
Knowledge of substation equipment, layouts, and electrical design principles.
Experience in transmission & distribution (T&D), utilities, or power systems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high‑quality design documentation.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Desire to learn, grow, and work alongside experienced engineering professionals.
Work on projects that directly impact the nation's electric grid.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, with 2-3 days per week in the office and the remaining time working remotely. You'll be part of a collaborative engineering team focused on solving complex power delivery challenges and creating infrastructure that keeps communities and businesses connected.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tucson, AZ.
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
