Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group in Madison, WI seeks a Design Engineer I to perform substation design, layout and protection & control system work, ensuring safety and construction standards are met. You will collaborate with engineers and field personnel to produce accurate design drawings and calculations.

The role reports to a Supervising Engineer and sits on a team with designers and drafters across projects; travel may be required and candidates should have an ABET-accredited

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly desirable.
• Curiosity about substation components; design or construction experience is highly desirable.
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, protection & control systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Create design drawings, calculations, and BoMs from engineering documents for planning and construction.
• Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker, and grounding.
• Ensure adherence to NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Conduct quality reviews and propose improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and calculations.
• Identify and communicate project risks to stakeholders.
• Travel offsite for project assignments as needed.
