Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group seeks a Substation Design Engineer to perform layout and protection & control system design for substation projects. You will select materials, prepare design documents, and collaborate with engineers and field personnel to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

The role reports to a Supervising Engineer within a dedicated substation design team. Four bands exist for this title; progression occurs with experience and mastery of new skills.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
• FE exam is highly desirable.
• Interest in learning major substation components and related design knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components including yard layouts, grounding, protection and control building arrangements, raceways, and power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Create design drawings, calculations and BOMs from engineering documents for planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.
• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker and grounding analyses.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards in all designs.
• Conduct quality reviews to identify issues and propose improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop solutions and modifications.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Identify potential project risks and communicate with stakeholders.
• Travel occasionally for project needs.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
