Job summary

The GBS Group is seeking a Submarine Control Systems Engineer to design and develop state-of-the-art control systems for U.S. Navy ships, with responsibilities spanning prototype execution, troubleshooting, installation support, and training of ship personnel.

You will work both independently and with a team of engineers on complex naval platforms, contributing to lifecycle support and future HM&E machinery control systems for U.S. Navy and allied ships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or computer science from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify control/instrumentation systems for U.S. Navy ships.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing control systems including electrical interfaces.
  • Provide onboard troubleshooting and training for ship personnel.
  • Review legacy systems and develop system upgrades.
  • Interpret requirements and design control/sensor circuitry.
  • Use diagnostics tools to support system improvements.
  • Document technical systems including manuals and equipment lists.
  • Travel approximately 10% CONUS and overseas for support.

Submarine Control Systems Engineer

The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer. As a Control Systems Engineer with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will develop and design state of the art systems for implementation aboard US Naval Vessels. This will include prototype execution and demonstration, troubleshooting, installation support and coordination. Direct training of ships personnel and support staff and life cycle support functions will be accomplished. This position will also contribute real value by developing future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Development of new and/or modification of existing control systems and instrumentation systems for U.S. Navy ships.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of existing control systems to include electrical and mechanical interfaces.
  • Onboard ships assistance to include troubleshooting assistance and training of shipboard personnel in the operation of and maintenance of these systems.
  • Review of legacy systems and drawings to recommend and develop system upgrades
  • Interpret system requirements and design control and sensor circuitry for control systems.
  • Use of diagnostics tools and instruments.
  • Gain knowledge of and assist in improvement of major concepts and practices within control system envelope.
  • Development of electrical and mechanical design and drawing development to document systems.
  • Approximately 10% travel both CONUS and Overseas to assist in system troubleshooting and system updates and retrofits.
  • Review and development of technical documentation including technical manuals and systems equipment lists.
  • Ability to travel both CONUS and overseas approximately 30% to perform system troubleshooting and repair and participate in new system installations and upgrades.
  • Work in a team environment interfacing with various stake holders to include planning yards, shipyards, installation teams and ships force.
Qualifications

Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's level degree in Electrical or computer science from an accredited college or university.
Target Experience
  • Prior U.S. Navy submarine experience a plus but not required.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in designing and working with PLC based control systems and instrumentation systems. (Knowledge of Rockwell/Allen Bradley equipment preferred)
  • Two (2) years professional experience in reading and modifying electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Two (2) years experience in the use and application of test equipment and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting of and setup of PLC control system hardware and software (Rockwell/Allen Bradley preferred).
  • Independent problem-solving ability a plus.
  • Ability to communicate and report findings both written and verbal.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Physical / Mental Requirements
  • Ability to work in a test lab environment.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Reasonable troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic and advanced math computational skills.
  • Understand and interpret electrical drawing and schematics.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility or ship
  • Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend in order to reach all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to work in and on overhead structures, as well as below machinery.
  • Can require kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
Pay & Benefits
