Job summary

The GBS Group in Virginia Beach, VA seeks a Maritime Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team. This role focuses on shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution, navigation and communication systems for naval and maritime platforms.

Responsibilities include design support, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and coordinating with software, hardware, and program management teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years of experience working with shipboard electrical power generation systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of US Navy and commercial shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to shipboard systems.
  • Ability to execute PLC driven systems for machinery controls.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance (US Citizenship Required).

Maritime Electrical Engineer
Overview:

The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm, is seeking a Maritime Electrical Engineer to join our Virginia Beach headquarters office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Support shipboard electrical power, navigation systems, communication systems and machinery controls systems and equipment.
  • Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment.
  • Develop programming and equipment standards for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution system, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as reports, procedures and test plans in support of all aspects of shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Participate in requirements development and design reviews to document system issues and revise design specifications and other detailed documentation for new systems and modernization efforts.
  • Contribute to proposal development by providing generation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS’s), Bill of Materials, and labor estimates for shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution system, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Communicate effectively with team members in software engineering, hardware engineering and program management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years of experience working with shipboard electrical power generation systems
  • Proficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with US Navy and commercial shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to shipboard electrical power generation, control and distribution systems, navigation systems, and communication systems.
  • Ability to execute PLC driven systems for machinery controls
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance (US Citizenship Required)
Desired Characteristics:
  • Familiarity with ABS rules for Motor Vessels
  • Develop and execute testing Protocols
  • Drive/Motor Control systems
  • Woodward, Basler, or ComAp generator controls experience.
  • SKM System Analysis Software experience.
  • Technical writing ability.
  • Experience with NG Sperry Marine, Furuno, JRC and Anschutz Navigation Systems.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, hard hats, etc. as required.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility and/or ship.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
