Job summary

The New School's Parsons School for Design is seeking Student Assistants for the E4 Wood, Metal, Tool Checkout, and Light lab within the Making Center. You will help checkout tools, monitor spaces, and support Managers and Technicians in daily processes while keeping areas clean and organized.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, with strong organization.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions and work with diverse users.
• Willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends.
• Familiarity with Google Suite.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Able to work on-campus as required.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment and a respectful shop culture.
• Provide a high level of customer service and professional demeanor in all interactions.
• Report for shift on time and review priority tasks with the supervisor.
• Monitor patrons entering and exiting the shop space and assist them as needed.
• Provide information to students, faculty, staff and the public regarding services, policies, and procedures.
• Perform basic reception duties including greeting visitors and answering calls and emails.
• Assist students and faculty with reservations and equipment requests.
• Assist Making Center Staff with shop upkeep, organization, and maintenance.
• Perform tasks to assist in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various machinery.
• Complete special projects as assigned and participate in training sessions.
