Job summary

Parsons School of Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants for the Making Center. The role involves helping students and faculty with tool checkout, monitoring spaces, and keeping facilities clean and organized. On-campus, part-time hours, friendly environment.

You will assist with WebCheckout, open/close procedures, and basic troubleshooting, learning new skills as needed. Prioritize safety and thoroughness while serving a diverse community of students and staff.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Adaptable and consistent when notifying supervisor of schedule changes.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work without close supervision or alone.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets).
• Physical ability to lift items.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.
• Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs on occasion.

Responsibilities

• Report for shift on time and assist Making Center Staff with reviewing priority of tasks in the shop, including upkeep, organization, and maintenance.
• Work in WebCheckout providing students appropriate tools for their projects and processing materials for the store.
• Open and close of the shops, including unlocking resources and logging into computers.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderly conditions across spaces.
