Job summary

The New School's Parsons School for Design is seeking Student Assistants for the E4 Wood, Metal, Tool Checkout, and Light lab within the Making Center. You will help with daily shop operations, checkout tools, assist with reservations, and support staff while learning new skills in a busy, hands-on environment.

You’ll provide customer service, help with equipment handling, and participate in routine maintenance, safety, and inventory tasks.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor.
• adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work without close supervision or alone.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
• Ability to handle objects weighing up to 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
• Assist with reservations and equipment requests.
• Perform shop upkeep, organization, and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and inventory organization.
• Assist with lighting equipment installation and general maintenance.
• Open/close shop and handle basic administrative tasks.
• Process and organize deliveries and materials.
• Support store operations and procurement as needed.
