Job summary

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants for E4 Wood, Metal, Tool Checkout, and Light lab within the Making Center. The Making Center offers labs, shops, studios, and open workspaces to support making across disciplines.

The successful candidate will be personable, proactive, and detail oriented, able to learn new skills, assist with reservations and checkout of tools, and help maintain a welcoming shop environment for students, faculty and staff.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor.
• Available for evenings and weekends as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle equipment with care.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate an inclusive, welcoming learning environment and shop culture.
• Provide high-level customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
• Monitor shop entry and support patrons during shifts.
• Assist with reservations and equipment checkout for student projects.
• Inspect tools on return and address damage or cleanliness issues.
• Maintain tool organization and assist in shop upkeep and light lab tasks.
