Job summary

Wichita State University information technology services seeks a student assistant on the Wichita campus to gain hands-on experience in research computing and user support. You will work in Linux-based environments, assist researchers, and help maintain documentation. This paid role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and enrollment in at least six WSU credits.

The position is on-site, with work hours 8am–5pm, and requires U.S. citizenship.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Responsibilities

• Support users of research computing and data systems.
• Troubleshoot account access, software environment, and system usage issues.
• Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical concerns.
• Work in Linux-based and scientific computing environments.
• Create, update, and maintain user documentation and knowledge resources.
• Develop technical communication skills through interactions with students, faculty, and researchers.
• Monitor system status and escalate issues per procedures.
• Gain experience with research software ecosystems and computing workflows.
• Maintain records of support requests, activities, and resolutions.
• Collaborate with professional staff on projects supporting research and instructional computing services.
